The Invisalign® Process
With the Invisalign® system, our patients in the San Diego area wear a series of custom-fitted clear plastic aligners to gradually shift the position of their teeth. At Smile San Diego of Mission Valley and Chula Vista, the Invisalign® process begins with a consultation with one of our cosmetic dentists. Once it has been determined that a patient is a suitable candidate for Invisalign® an impression is taken of his or her mouth and sent to an Invisalign® laboratory so that a series of customized molds can be manufactured.
Each clear plastic mold is worn for approximately two weeks. Once teeth have shifted sufficiently, the next mold in the series is worn, moving the teeth slightly until a straight smile is achieved. Each patient’s smile is different, but generally patients wear between 18 and 30 molds to reach optimal results; roughly the same treatment time as with traditional metal or ceramic braces.
